Young musicians turned The Dorset School gymnasium into a live music venue recently. Students from kindergarten through sixth grade showcased a variety of voice and instrumental talent in two concerts on one evening that delighted families and friends.

“I love this turnout,” said music instructor Dan Seiden. “These kids bring energy and passion to class every day. It’s great to give them a chance to perform live in front of an audience. They just keep getting better.”

First up were artists from kindergarten through grade three. Each group performed separately with songs ranging from a traditional, such as “My Bonny” to modern numbers like John Denver’s “Country Road” and the O’Jays “Love Train.” For the finale all grades joined together to cap the first show with “The Lion Sleeps (Tonight).”

The second concert demonstrated the progression of instrumental skills from students as they move from the fourth to sixth grades. Flutes, keyboards, drums, saxophones, and a plethora of guitars were on full display as each grade strutted their stuff. The six graders closed the show with an appropriate number that warmed even the coldest winter night: Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”
